That knowledge should be what the medication is used for, its action and any possible interactions with other medications.

Finally, in concert with this technical knowledge, an important function of the pharmacy technician is to interact compassionately and be empathetic with those that come to the prescription counter. This means that even though the patient may be aggravating or contrary or downright mean, it is an important for the technician to maintain their professionalism with a healthy dose of empathy.
