Hunting and Fishing – Is It Your Favorite Sport?

Hunting is the act of pursuing any living organism for the purpose of food, recreation or trade. Lawful hunting is different from poaching. The former refers to hunting animals that are legally approved, whereas the latter refers to killing, capturing or trapping animals that are contrary to applicable laws. Poaching can also include hunting in illegal areas or killing animals that are endangered and thus ought to be protected.

Hunting is also sometimes referred to as game. Trapping is a different terminology altogether and is quite different from hunting. While hunting can involve killing of the animal, trapping may be for other purposes like photography or close observation. The act of hunting has a very early history with the Paleolithic man hunting down his food. Initially, early men used to hunt down herbivores animals and consumed them as food. Later, they began to hunt down large animals and eat them too.

With the invention of fire, the flesh of animals were cooked and fried before consuming. This was a mammoth step towards civilization. In fact early men were often termed as hunters because they always hunt down animals for food and the skin of animals were used as clothes to protect them from cold. They also possessed many tools to help them capture animals.

This included spears, bows and arrows etc. later; they began taming and domesticating animals. Wild dogs were captured and tamed and were used as pets. Today, hunting and shooting has been regulated by many laws. Many people consider hunting as a recreation and choose places for hunting. Government specifies that only licensed pistols and rifles can be used for hunting. Fishing is the activity of trying to catch fish.

There are different techniques for catching fish and these include hand gathering, spearing, netting and trapping. Fishing is a term applied to catching aquatic animals. Fishing too, as an activity dates back to the Paleolithic period. Primitive man used fish as a source of food. They also used its bones for paintings and creating small and attractive show pieces for their homes. A traditional method of fishing is by using a fishing hook or a rod. A fishing line is a long pole with a hook in its end.

Bait in the form of a small worm or a small fish is often attached to the hook and inserted into the water. This method of fishing requires patience as the fisherman has to wait until a fish gnaws at the bait and then pull the rod up. Today, fishing is done as recreation, livelihood and a commercial activity. Big fishing vessels are involved in large scale fishing.

Moreover, fishing industry also involves packing, storing, and canning of different variety of fishes. Big game fishing involves catching large and heavy fishes like sharks, and marlins. Fishing as a recreation is pursued by people more for pleasure and competitions. Such people often register with recreational fishing groups and fish in remote areas of the sea. There are many regulations that govern the activities of such groups.

Awesome wild hunting in Alaska

I was in Denali Park a couple of weeks ago and watched a grizzly and 3 wolves disputing ownership of a kill. Was like watching a nature show on the Discovery channel. Which brings up another point: some hunting areas in Alaska have a 10 month, 10 per day season on wolves. Are there really that many wolves up there to support a season like that?See, there truely are no (OK, very, very, very, very few) roads suitable for cars or trucks.

I’ve hunted in various places in the US, and quite a bit in Alaska. In the lower 48, you drive up and walk a short way in. Just isn’t possible in 99% of Alaska. 4 wheelers, snowmobiles and boats are often essential in getting to hunting ground. And until you’ve ever packed a moose even 1 mile up a hill or through a bog, you have no idea how essential it is to have some mechanized assistance if you can.

There are just no roads, like in the lower 48, even the most rural parts of Montana and Wyoming are no comparison. I also hate “sport” use of snowmobiles and 4 wheelers – this is where I depart from a lot of my friends. Buzzing around on the things just to break up ground, make noise and burn fuel is very irritating to me, personally. But using them for hunting is often essential. The alternative is not hunting or paying air charter.

It may be true that is the most practical way to hunt wild Alaska. However, I hope that if or when I get to hunt Alaska, I can do it in a way more pleasing to me. Like a canoe trip down a river, or getting dropped off by airplane and picked up again but using my feet in between. Or mule-training it in. Or horses. Hunting deep backcountry on an ATV just seems kind of yucky to me. I’d much prefer a non-mechanized hunt whenever it’s doable and really do not like 4 wheelers as a rule or the people who I tend to meet who hunt with them. But I also know that use of 4 wheelers is the way to go for most people in AK. To me, a peaceful air charter w/ non-motor boat is an excellent option, but very expensive – therefore the practicality of the 4 wheeler or motor boat. I do indeed hope you get your Alaskan hunt wish.

Fishing & Hunting

The only constitutional “right” to have firearms, to protect the Freedom of a state/s, not for “hunting” Here is another little known fact,, the shot fired, that was heard around the world, was when the British were going to cross that bridge, to confiscate the power, ball and arms, in the homes of the people of Concord. The Minute men were defending their firearms, not their fishing equipment, not even their lives, the British only wanted their guns, they were not even going to arrest anyone, but coming after their guns was the straw that broke the camel’s back, they knew if they got them, they could not defend themselves or state from the government (British at that time)

Many of us reloads used them, it allowed us to shoot lead bullets at jacked bullet velocities, reducing our cost to practice The Anti gun nuts wanted everyone to think it was just to penetrate police vest,, just so they could chip away at the guns and ammo. Of course even if this was true, it would be another case of getting it into the public eyes that guns are only for hunting, then like in England, when they ban hunting, they can then ban guns One day the peta people will get a law pasted where you can only catch and release fish,, of course this would not upset you personally, but this step would be another step to their final goal of stopping fishing completly

One step at a time is the game plan of gun grabbers ,and animal rights people WE must unite to defend all our rights, we can’t keep giving up a little each year, at one point we will have none left,, Use your brains people. If they outlaw personal water craft, this would make many here happy, but that would be one step to outlawing high performance bass boats, which would be a step to outlawing gas powered boats, you must look at the final goals of these people, as they one step at a time you.

Deer Hunting in Wisconsin

You hunt Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigian Deer from a tree stand 6 or 8 or 10 feet in the air. Some have tried a ground level blind but usually with little success. Kerry is such a dumb bunny when he trys to say he knows something when it’s obvious to all listening that he doesn’t know crap about the subject. Kerry is the one that brought the subject up while campaigning in Wisconsin a few days ago.

He made a series of stupid statements about hunting and gun ownership to a fairly large audience trying to connect with the locals. He proved to the audience that he didn’t know what the hell he was talking about yet professed like he did. A trait of many north east and east coast liberal pointy heads who are not well liked by “flyover country” midwest folks. Like I said, many midwestern folks despise fakes.

Kerry is just a dumb bunny when he says he knows something when it is obvious to all that he doesn’t know crap about the subject he is yapping about. This is a character flaw Kerry has. It makes all his other statements suspect in the eyes of many heartland voters. A few more slip ups like this, and he can kiss Wisconsin and and some other midwestern states good by. How do I know? I grew up in Chicago, went to college down state ILL, lived in Minnesota for 15 years and have owned a Wisconsin summer home for 32 years and my wife is from the Wisconsin heartland, I was married in a small rural Wisc. church and my wife’s family all live in Wisconsin. His statements on deer hunting were just the statements of a fool trying to impress.
