Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated September 20 – September 27, 2009

Even though it is still raining off and on and heavy at times, most of the rain is staying in the mountains as snow. Some of the local mountains have received a fresh dusting of snow. This is a beautiful time of year as the leaves are turning their brilliant fall colours. Most rivers have come back into fishable shape since the heavy rain from last weekend. The Skeena River has been dropping since mid week. Steelhead fishing in the main stem Skeena has slowed a little bit as most of the summer-run Steelhead have already gone through. The lower end, China Bar area, is still fishing well for Steelhead and Coho (Silver) Salmon. The Skeena tribs and isolated Coastal Rivers are fishing well for Coho, the runs are peaking. The “northerns” are here! We’ve had a very good run of Coho this year. To learn more check past fishing reports http://www.noelgyger.ca/past-fishing-reports.htm. Both spin, conventional, spey fly fishing and single hand fly fishing are working well. For all the fine details and photos on the Kitimat River, Coastal Rivers and Douglas Channel please check out the Ron Wakita report below…and Notice of a navigation hazard in the river. The Zymoetz (Copper) River is clean and fishing “good” for Steelhead. The Kalum is fishing only “fair” for Steelhead and Coho as the water is high.
